Episode 10 Summary⚡️WHY DID THIS HOMEOWNER GET THE ENERGY AUDIT? Homeowner's exact reason: Our house very cold in winter in certain rooms that are not insulated properly. We also have old outdated insulation and we're not sure if some rooms even insulated at all. ⚡️WHERE WAS THIS HOME ENERGY AUDIT? This audit was done at a single-family home located in Davidsonville, Maryland 21035, through the BGE Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® program. ⚡️WHAT MADE THIS ENERGY AUDIT INTERESTING? The home had several opportunities to improve the insulation, including two crawl spaces, a knee wall attic over a garage, and the main attic over the central part of the home. ⚡️WHAT YOU MAY LEARN FROM THIS ENERGY AUDIT? Having as little as 18 ft2 of uninsulated attic area can reduce the overall effectiveness of the insulation by 20% or more in a 1000 ft2 attic area. ⚡️KEY TAKEAWAY FROM THIS HOME ENERGY AUDIT: If you have ever had work done to the upstairs or plan to, double-check to ensure your contractor returns the insulation to the way it was so that you don't have as many problems with comfort and energy loss.

Hello and welcome to my world which revolves around teaching some of the basics of building science so that more people can get into the driver’s seat regarding their energy usage and overall comfort around the house. Weekly episodes should yield a variety of housing types that will provide both common and unique scenarios. As always, finding the correct diagnosis will require good investigative work, experience, and the use of diagnostic equipment. Hopefully, these daily encounters will help open people's minds to the subtle, yet important ways in which a home can lose, literally "tons" of energy.
